Ok, what's the deal? Who has it? Why do you like it? Is it worth the download? I'm pretty much only a msn messenger girl, any reason for me to switch to windows live? Thanks all!

I have it. It really isn't that much different. Maybe if you have a bit of sight, I suppose it might look different. The sounds have changed a bit--nothing too drastic. If you like MSN, I'd stay stick with it.

I agree. Nothing special about it. A few new bells and whistles, but nothing that really makes it special. Overall, Skype is my favorite.

I like WLM, it's pretty cool. The one feature I really like is that you can message people while in appear offline status. So, if you want to sneak up from behind someone and go, boo! You can't see me online but here I am, you can do that. Or, if you just don't want a whole bunch of people messaging you and you don't feel like going away or busy or whatever, you can do that. The appearance is a bit different and JAWS 7.0 sometimes has a tiny bit of trouble in the conversation window, but most times it's ok and it's not that much of a problem. To elliminate a whole lot of those annoying tool bar buttons, go to the contact list window, select a contact and open up a conversation window like you're going to send them a message. Then go to the tools menu with alt t, and then press enter on the show tool bars sub menu. you'll then get 2 items, standard and formatting. Both will be checked, but because of the way this particular menu works, only one item can be unchecked at a time. So you'll have to uncheck one thing by pressing enter on it, and then go back to tools, show tool bars and then uncheck the other one. But if both of these choices are turned off, I think that you'll find that your conversation window is a lot less cluttered. There are a few add banners I haven't been able to figure out how to turn off but they don't usually get in my way. Hope this helps.

also, you can talk to yahoo people with it, if you have friends that use that messenger.

What about with earlier versions of JAWS? I have 6.1 and don't feel like updating.

If you don't want to turn off those tool bars, just press f6 when you're in the conversation window, and it'll take you to the history log.

I'm not sure how 6.1 would work with it. I'm thinking it might have some difficulties, but I'm really not sure. I'm using 7.0.

I use Jaws 7, and it works pretty good. The one feature I do like, is the voice clips.

You can do voice clips with 7.5 as well.
I didn't try live messenger yet.

I've been using WLM for a couple of weeks. Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but, I cannot get my Yahoo IM contacts to ever show up.

I also put in the Messenger Plus extension, and find the preferences panel a bit hard to use with JFW7.0.

I haven't tried messenger plus yet. I've used the mess patch, and it really helps get rid of extra buttons and advertisements. I heard about this patch on Jeff Bishop's site. The address is

Will this patch, fix the issue of not being able to navigate the contact list by first letter? I find that if I try to, I end up in some sort of search box, and then when I finally do get around to my contact list, I can't see all of my contacts

what the search box allows you to do, is type in a string, and get rid of the contacts that do not match that query. Dave, the contacts you add must have the latest beta of yahoo IM for you to see them in WLM.

Windows live messenger doesn't work well at all with jaws6x, it has issues bigtime.
